The Journey to Pathology Solutions

Danielle Lee Davis began her leadership role in regards to Pathologists' Assistants in Canada by first working with the PA (Pathologists' Assistant) Section of the CAP-ACP (Canadian Association of Pathologists) to standardize the PA profession itself via a (now) ISO 17024-compliant certification process that was implemented by the CCCPA-CCCAP (Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants) of which she was the inaugural CEO. During the process of defining the scope of practice and via several surveys sent to Canadian PAs and employers, it became clear that there was a need to pursue more standardization within PA worksites.

Danielle then stepped down from the CCCPA-CCCAP CEO position in order to found Pathology Solutions, Inc. to meet this identified need that exists not only in Canada, but around the world. Danielle herself routinely donates her time and resources to volunteer at Cocody University in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, teaching grossing techniques to residents for their international pathology residency training program.

An Exceptional Educator Who Simplifies Complex Topics and Creates Lasting Impact

BIO Ventures for Global Health (BVGH) has been working with Danielle since 2022 when she first traveled to Côte d'Ivoire on behalf of BVGH to train laboratory staff tissue grossing, staining techniques for hematological cancers, and troubleshooting histologic techniques. Danielle is an exceptional educator who simplifies complex topics and tailors her sessions to local resources and cultural contexts. She engages learners with practical, relevant demonstrations, creating an inclusive environment where all participants feel valued. Danielle's expertise and adaptability have made her a key BVGH partner in building pathology capacity and making a lasting impact on the diagnosis of cancer in Africa.

About the Company

Pathology Solutions, Inc.'s founder and CEO, Danielle Lee Davis, understands that gross rooms are often viewed as "different" from the rest of the medical laboratory. Many managers lack extensive grossing knowledge, and historically, pathologists performing dissections didn't rely on the standardized operating procedures (SOPs) the rest of the lab depended on—leading to the misconception that grossing procedures can not be applied to all specimen types. This also created workspaces that were unsafe to learn in (due to differing instruction from different pathologists with no clear best practice guidelines), harboured ambiguity, and created overlapping scopes of practice of several team members. Pathology Solutions specializes in removing these historical issues while involving the whole pathology team, ensuring any deliverables and training meet the whole teams’ needs.

Just as physics explains what was once considered mystical, Pathology Solutions demystifies gross training by creating comprehensive, reproducible written procedures that reflect each site's individuality and history while setting it up for future success. Our approach incorporates all levels of grossing staff into your workflow, optimizes resources, maintains staff engagement, and minimizes repetitive strain injuries.

Our training programs, competency assessments, and grossing procedures foster a culture of safety that allows your team to exceed their potential. We remove the ambiguity and provide clear, actionable documentation and a workflow that your site can rely on for years after our contract ends.
